Hempstead County Investigators Recover Stolen Property, Detain 4 Juveniles

 

 

At approximately 3:56 PM Monday January 24, 2022, Deputies were dispatched to 2819 Highway 174 South in reference to a theft.

 

Upon arrival deputies made contact with the victim. Victim stated that someone got into his shed and racecar trailer and stolen several items Victim stated that the following items were taken from the shop: 2 Mr. Buddy portable heaters valued at $75 each, 20lb propane tank full valued at $80, DeWalt 1/2 drive impact 3 20 volt batteries and charger valued at $319, Harbor fright 3/8 drive impact 2 20 volt batteries and charger valued at $300, miscellaneous mechanic tools valued at $100, Works Battery charger and 2 batteries 20 volt valued at $200, Burton butane portable cooker valued at $40, Centech 12 volt battery charger valued at $55, 5 gal bucket valued at $2, Kidde fire extinguisher valued at $20, Gatorade 8 pack valued at $8. Pittsburgh 2 1/2-ton floor jack valued at $200, 5-gallon jug of racing fuel valued at $80, starting fluid valued at $2 full sets of screwdrivers, vice grip pliers, sockets and extensions, ratchets and ratchet wrenches valued all at $500.

 

On January 26, 2022, Deputies were dispatched to 2819 Highway 174 South in reference to two white males running from the residence and jumping a fence into a field. Deputy Dunham, Investigator McBride, and Deputy Evans arrived on scene. Upon arrival, Sergeant Crane observed two males walking onto a porch and walk into a residence located at 2707 Highway 174 south. Sergeant Crane went to the residence and begin trying to make contact with someone at the residence.

 

Contact was made with two 16-year-old juvenile males at the residence. Both juveniles were escorted to the Hempstead County Sheriff's Office where parents were notified. Director Gary Dorman interviewed the juveniles with their parents present, while Sergeant Crane and Investigator McBride located several tools, lights, ratchet straps, floor jack and battery chargers belonging to the victim of the theft on Monday. Sergeant Crane then contacted the victim to come to the residence and identify the property. The victim identified numerous items that were his. the property was then released to him.

 

Investigators discovered that two other juveniles ages 12, and 13 were involved in the breaking or entering and theft. The two additional juveniles and their parents were contacted and came to the Sheriff's Office. Investigators were able to learn of the location of the other stolen property and recovered it and returned it to the victim.

 

All juveniles were turned over to the Juvenile Court system and released to their parents pending a court date.
