Deputies & K-9 locate drugs in vehicle

On Thursday June 23, 2022, at approximately 11:47 AM, Director Gary Dorman, Special Agent Justin Crane and Special Agent Brandon Henry all of the 8 North Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, in the parking lot of Red River Federal Credit Union.  As the vehicle was coming to a stop Agents noticed the driver moving around in a manner as if he were trying to hide something under the console, The driver was identified as 43-year-old Lacory Thomas of Columbus, Arkansas.

Deputy Kyle Malone was requested that he bring his K-9, Pakal to the location. Malone arrived and deployed his K-9, Pakal.  Pakal alerted to the odor of drugs inside the vehicle.

Deputy Justin Crane began searching the driver side area of the vehicle and as he pulled on the driver side of the center console a set of digital scales fell into the driver side floorboard.  Deputies continued searching the vehicle and located several plastic grocery bags that had sections torn off. Deputy Malone located several tablets of suspected ecstasy; in the center console The scales and suspected ecstasy were collected as evidence.  Lacory Thomas was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Hempstead County Detention Center for booking procedures. He is awaiting a first Court Appearance.
