Possession of Controlled Substance

06/20/2023

On June 19, 2023, at approximately 2327 hours, Deputy Johnson sitting stationary on the eastbound shoulder of Highway 278 West checking traffic with radar when he observed an oncoming vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. Deputy Johnson checked speed with radar and the vehicle was traveling 69 miles per hour in a posted 55 miles per hour speed zone. Deputy Johnson initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle; a purple 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The vehicle pulled into the roadway of the Hope Municipal Airport.

Deputy Johnson approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Myreon Lee, who was blowing a lot of cigar smoke out of the window. Deputy Johnson introduced himself to Myreon and the reason for the traffic stop. Deputy Johnson could also smell the odor of marijuana and asked Myreon if there was anything in the vehicle and Myreon handed Deputy Johnson a Day Day Cookies package containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana; the package also indicated it was marijuana.

Deputy Johnson asked Myreon to exit the vehicle and go to the front of his patrol unit. Deputy Johnson asked Myreon if he had anything illegal on him and performed a Terry Frisk. Deputy Johnson asked Myreon if he was on probation or parole and he stated he was. Deputy Johnson asked Myreon if there was anything else in the vehicle and Myreon hesitated and said there might be. Upon Deputy Johnson searching the vehicle, there was a reddish colored bag in the front passenger seat. In this bag, Deputy Johnson found another package labeled Day Day Cookies, a package labeled Runtz (also stating it was marijuana), and a digital scale with a green residue on it.  These items were collected as evidence and taken to the Hempstead County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Johnson issued citation 201885 for Speeding, Driving on Suspended ID/DL, No Proof of Insurance, and Possession of Controlled Substance Scheduled VI with a court date of July 24, 2023 at 0900 hours at the Hempstead County Courthouse.
