On August 5, 2023 at approximately 08:26, deputies arrested 49-year-old Jason Lee Mills of Emmet for Aggravated Assault on a Family Member, Domestic Battery 3rd Degree, Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons. Mills was taken into custody after a three-hour manhunt.

Deputies were called to a residence on County Road 53 after responding to shot's fired call and domestic disturbance. Deputies were told by victim that Mills had physically assaulted her and then began to shoot inside the home he then left and towards the woods to the west of the house.

Deputies located Mills in a wooded area near the residence and took him into custody without incident. Deputies did recover two rifles and a duffel bag of ammo upon Mill's Arrest.

Jason Mills was taken to the Hempstead County Detention Center where he is awaiting a first court appearance.
