After 48 years of dedicated service in law enforcement, including the last 16 years as your Sheriff and Collector, I am announcing my retirement at the end of this current term, On December 31, 2026.

 

This decision comes with mixed emotions, as serving the people of Hempstead County has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

Throughout my career, I have been privileged to work alongside some of the finest law enforcement professionals, dedicated public servants, and, most importantly, the incredible citizens of this county.

 

Throughout the years, I have had the privilege of witnessing this county grow and change, and I have always been inspired by the resilience, generosity, and strength of its people. Together, we have faced challenges and celebrated successes. I am proud of what we have accomplished and confident that Hempstead County is in a strong position for the future.

 

To my colleagues, staff, and the many community partners I have worked with-thank you. Your dedication has made my job both meaningful and fulfilling. And to the citizens of this county: thank you for your continued confidence, support, and friendship.

 

As I prepare to step away from my role as Sheriff and Collector, I want to take a moment to express my full and unwavering support for Justin Crane as the next Sheriff of Hempstead County. With over 48 years in law enforcement, I understand the qualities and leadership it takes to serve effectively in this position. Without a doubt, Justin Crane possesses the experience, integrity, and dedication necessary to continue serving and protecting our community.

 

Throughout his career, Justin has demonstrated a deep commitment to law enforcement and public safety. He has worked tirelessly to uphold the values of honesty, accountability, and service that are critical for this role. His experience, knowledge of the law, and strong leadership skills make him the ideal candidate to lead the Sheriff's Office into the future.

 

I have had the privilege of working alongside Justin for the past 18 years, and have seen firsthand his dedication to this county and its citizens. I trust that, under his leadership, the Sheriff's Office will continue to operate with professionalism, fairness, and a commitment to justice. I encourage you to support Justin Crane in his campaign to become our next Sheriff. He is the right choice to ensure the safety and security of Hempstead County for years to come.
